COLUMBUS, Ohio – Organizers of the Memorial Tournament may not always be wild about cell phones, but they are embracing social media.
Two new “digital hubs” are located between the 14th and 18th fairways and between the 6th green and 7th fairway.
They are the official on-site venues for official tournament releases, such as guest appearances, tournament content and trivia via all new touch screen kiosks, on-course contests and tablet and smartphone stations.
The Nationwide Digital House returned Wednesday near the tournament’s Patron Information Center adjacent to the practice facility. It provides access to Nationwide social media streams, a giant screen running aggregated Twitter feeds, exclusive interviews with golfers and more.
The Memorial Tournament iPhone and Android apps provide access to an interactive course map, live scoring and updates.
Presenting sponsor Nationwide Insurance is also providing XM radios with an added FM band to follow the action.
First round play is underway with the field chasing defending champion Tiger Woods, who will try to become the only six-time winner.
