ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A Zanesville nursing home is out of business after being accused of neglecting patients.
Officials with the Ohio Department of Health and Attorney General’s office plan to terminate the license of the Autumn Healthcare facility in 60 days because dozens of patients weren’t getting the care they deserved.
The move to shut down the facility comes after an undercover investigation by the Attorney General’s Office turned up evidence of patient neglect and multiple health department inspections found ongoing patterns of substandard care at the 100-bed facility, Attorney General Mike DeWine said.
The investigation was launched after patients’ relatives complained about possible neglect.
With the permission of patients’ families, agents installed hidden surveillance cameras in several rooms and recorded instances where staff members did not provide proper medical, nutritional or personal care and falsified documents to make it appear as if the proper treatment was being provided, DeWine said.
After those findings were turned over to the health department, an inspection found violations in infection control, treatment and care, food and nutrition, and resident rights.
