CLEVELAND, Ohio – The rescue of three Cleveland women held prisoner for a decade has reopened wounds for rape victims and unsolved cases for police.
Many victims of rape in the Cleveland area who have never sought help are asking for it since the case broke a week ago. The Cleveland Rape Crisis Center has seen an increase in calls, CEO Megan O’Bryan said.
“It is very normal for something of this nature to re-trigger symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder in survivors, both those who have begun their healing process and most certainly those who have not,” O’Bryan said.
Police say detectives are actively looking for dozens of other missing people.
The police department’s website lists more than 100 people who have been missing, in hopes of generating more tips and finding them alive.
The oldest case is that of Christina Adkins, who vanished nearly 6,700 days ago, in 1995.
