Where you can live life in the fast lane

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Drivers will soon be able to go faster on nearly 600 miles of Ohio’s interstate highways, but not in cities like Columbus.

The Ohio Department of Transportation unveiled yesterday the 570 miles of highway where the state’s new 70 mph speed limit will be in effect.

Central Ohio drivers can enjoy faster speeds on I-71 and I-70, but the 70 mph zones stop at the Franklin County line.

The new speed limit takes effect July 1st as part of the two-state budget approved earlier this year.

Ohio is one of 35 other where speed limits have increased to 70 miles per hour or higher including Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky and West Virginia.

The exact location of the speed increases are:

I-70: From the Indiana border in the west to just outside of Wheeling, WV in the east, excluding Dayton, Columbus and Zanesville

I-71: From the Jeremiah Morrow Bridge in southwest Ohio to just south of the border of the Cuyahoga/Medina County line in the north, excluding Columbus

I-75: From just outside of Toledo going south until just north of Dayton, excluding Findlay and Lima

I-76: From just outside Akron going east to just west of Youngstown

I-77: From just outside of Canton south to the West Virginia border

1-90: From just outside of Cleveland to the Pennsylvania border
