COLUMBUS – The deaths of a 4-year-old boy and a 65-year-old man have raised the year’s murder toll in Columbus to 83.

UPDATE 6/4/21 8:21 a.m.: Police say they have arrested Michelle Hilyard, 48, on a murder charge in connection with this incident

Officers found 4-year-old Bryson Brown unresponsive when they responded to a call in the 1000 block of Geers Avenue in the Driving Park neighborhood on the East Side just after 65:00 a.m. on May 26, and paramedics transported the child to Nationwide Children’s Hospital where he died at 6:05 a.m., Sgt. Eric Pilya of the Homicide Unit said.

Due to the nature of the injuries, the death is being investigated as a homicide, though no charges have been filed, Pilya said.

The investigation continues.

This was the 81st homicide of the year in Columbus.

An unknown assailant fired on Robert Jordan and Shondrika Maxwell while they were in the parking lot of a business in the 1200 block of Sigsbee Avenue on the Northeast Side at 10:08 p.m. Monday night, Sgt. James Marable said.

Jordan, 65, was pronounced dead at the scene and Maxwell, 45, was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

This was the 83rd homicide of the year.

Homicide No. 82 was reported late Friday when officers dispatched on a reported shooting at 3639 Allendale Drive at 11:39 p.m. found a man suffering from a gunshot wound and unresponsive, Sgt. David Shimberg said.

UPDATE 6/7/21 6:53 a.m.: The victim in this homicide has been identified as John Walker, 68.

The man, whose name was not released pending positive identification and notification of family, received lifesaving medical treatment but died at the scene, Shimberg said.
