COLUMBUS – A man was killed and a woman was hurt when gunfire broke out on an East Side street early Tuesday, causing their vehicles to crash.
UPDATE 4/23/21 9:06 a.m.: The deceased victim in this incident has been identified as Abou Kane, 21.
An unidentified man died after his vehicle crashed into a utility pole at the intersection of E. Livingston Avenue and Courtright Road at about 1:00 a.m., Sgt. Terry McConnell of the Columbus police Cold Case Unit said.
Officers responding to the reported accident found the man inside the vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound. He died later at Grant Medical Center.
McConnell says the man’s name will be released once identification is made by the Franklin County Coroner’s office.
This is the 57th homicide of 2021 in Columbus.
A woman who was in a second vehicle was taken to a hospital after the car was struck by a bullet.
Ozian Gemal and Asenake Kinde were occupants of the vehicle, which crashed in the intersection of E. Livingston Avenue and Beechwood Road and Gemal, 24, was taken to an area hospital in stable condition to be treated for injuries she received as a result of the crash.
The man in the car with her was not injured, McConnell said.
