COLUMBUS – A shooting on the Northeast Side early Saturday left a man dead, the 12th murder victim of the year in Columbus.
Thomas Swanson died at Grant Medical Center about five hours after being injured in the shooting in the 5400 Block of Sandalwood Boulevard, Sgt. Edward Powell III of the Columbus police Homicide Unit said.

Officers responding to a report of a shooting at 2:48 a.m. found evidence of a shooting but no victim.
They were told that the victim was being taken to an area hospital by a 27-year-old man who had been at the scene, Powell said.
The friend flagged down officers in the 1800 Block of E. Dublin-Granville Road and they rendered aid to the victim until Clinton Township paramedics arrived and took Swanson, 23, to Grant Medical Center in critical condition.
He was pronounced dead at 7:57 a.m.
The other man at the scene was not injured, Powell said.
