COLUMBUS – A 16-year-old boy died when shots were fired during a gun deal on a Hilltop street Thursday night.
The youth was buying a firearm from a 17-year-old in the area of S. Ogden Avenue and W. Broad Street at 10:38 p.m. when the older boy tried to rob the younger one, Sgt. James Marable of the Homicide Unit said.
Shots were fired during the struggle and both teens were injured.
The 16-year-old was taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital where he died Friday morning, while 17-year-old Kamal Mustafa was taken to Grant Medical Center in stable condition and has been charged with murder, Marable said.
This is the 153rd homicide of the year in Columbus.
