COLUMBUS – Three men were killed in separate shooting incidents in Columbus over the weekend, raising the toll of homicides in the city this year to 93.
Jason Keys was killed Sunday afternoon when he was shot during an argument following a Father’s Day celebration in Walnut Hills on the Far East Side, Sgt. James Marable of the Columbus police Homicide Unit said.
Keys, 43, and his wife were leaving a Father’s Day party at a family member’s home at about 3:30 p.m. when a neighborhood dispute erupted and and several people, including Keys, produced firearms, Marable said.
Elias Smith, who was not involved in the dispute, heard arguing and fired several shots at Keys from his home, fatally wounding Keys, who died later at Mount Carmel East Hospital, Marable said.
Smith, 24, barricaded himself inside his home, prompting a response by a SWAT team.
Smith was arrested and charged with murder, Marable said.
Officers responding to a reported shooting at 856 Frank Road at 11:18 p.m. Saturday found 20-year-old Victor Castorrena suffering from gunshot wounds, Sgt. Edward Powell of the Homicide Unit said.
The officers rendered first aid until paramedics arrived and transported Castorrena to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center where he died at 11:47 p.m.
Officers called to the 6000 block of Busch Boulevard at 5:38 p.m. on Friday found Joe Mcgraw suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, Marable said.
Mcgraw, 21, died at Riverside Methodist Hospital at 6:03 p.m.
These incidents are still under investigation
Four other people were injured in three separate shooting incidents in Columbus over the weekend.
