5 suspects arrested in drug raid near school

COLUMBUS – Franklin County sheriff’s deputies seized drugs and weapons in a raid on a home within 1,000 feet of a Franklinton elementary school.

The department’s Special Investigation Unit seized one and a half kilos of suspected cocaine, a stash of firearms, nearly a thousand grams of marijuana, and more than $19,000 dollars in cash this week, according to information on the agency‘s social media accounts.

Following an undercover investigation revealed that suspects were distributing cocaine and fentanyl within a thousand feet of Avondale Elementary School, SIU, SWAT, and the sheriff’s office Bomb Unit joined forces to raid the suspect’s home in the 100 block of Hawkes Avenue, where they found the drugs, weapons and cash.

Five suspects are now facing felony drug charges, the agency said.
