William Moore, Nathan Blankenship and Heather Selbert were patrolling in their marked security vehicles outside the Colonial Village complex on Brookway Road at about 3:45 a.m. when a man standing at a bus stop flagged them down, said Det. Bob McCotter of the Felony Assault Unit.
Two of the guards had a confrontation with the suspect the night before and recognized him as they approached.
The suspect told the victims he had something for them and pulled a handgun from his waistband.
He pointed the weapons at the victims but, as he tried to fire the gun, McCotter says he realized there was no round in the chamber. While he chambered a round, the victims were able to take cover by one of the security vehicles.
The suspect then fired two gunshots at the victims and one of the guards was able to fire one gunshot at the man before he fled the scene.
No one was struck out of the incident, McCotter said.
