COLUMBUS – Ohio State will don all-scarlet uniforms when the Buckeyes host Penn State on Oct. 30 and want fans to join the “color rush.”

The players will wear scarlet jerseys, pants, socks, base layers, gloves and spikes with the traditional striping pattern on the shoulders and down the side of the legs.

The traditional metallic extreme silver helmet will also be worn.

Fans are encouraged to “scarlet the stadium” by layering up in their own scarlet jerseys, sweatshirts, hoodies, sweaters, overcoats and blankets.

The start time for the game has not been determined.

Another Buckeye is the Big Ten’s top frosh

The youth movement at many skill positions on the Ohio State team is apparent in the number of “Freshman of the Week awards the team has won so far.

All of them.

Quarterback Kyle McCord is the fourth Buckeye to win the honor, joining C.J. Stroud, who won the award twice, and TreVeyon Henderson, who was last week’s recipient.

Starting in Stroud’s place, McCord became just the fourth true freshman quarterback to start a game for the Buckeyes.

He completed 13 of 18 passes for 319 yards and two touchdowns.

His yardage total is the most for a quarterback in his debut start, topping the previous mark of 313 yards by Dwayne Haskins vs. Oregon State in 2018.

Ohio State (3-1) opens Big Ten play at Rutgers Saturday (3:30 p.m./BTN).
