CAPA Summer Movie Series returns in full

COLUMBUS – Columbus residents welcome back another favorite summer event as the CAPA Summer Movie Series returns for its 52nd year of screening classic films and cult favorites at the historic Ohio Theatre.

Alfred Hitchcock’s “North by Northwest,” starring Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint, will be part of the series on Saturday and Sunday, August 28 and 29. (CAPA)

The organization scheduled a pandemic-shortened series in September of 2020.

The 2021 series will feature 21 films over six weeks from July 22 through Aug. 29, including eight series premieres, a silent film with live musical accompaniment, Fright Nite Friday hosted by Fritz the Nite Owl and two Saturday mornings of classic cartoons.

Tickets can be purchased online through Friday, August 13.

The iconic downtown theater has undergone a three-month, $900,000 renovation that includes a newly upgraded loge, mezzanine, and balcony.

Also new for 2021 is “Listen Everywhere,” an assistive listening app that streams audio streamed directly to patrons’ smartphones. Viewers can listen with headphones or ear buds and the volume can be adjusted.

Clark Wilson will celebrate his 30th year as featured organist for the series, providing pre-show entertainment at the keys of the “Mighty Morton” theatre organ 30 minutes prior to each screening.
