COLUMBUS – New police and fire facilities are on the list of projects included in a proposed $1.26 billion Capital Improvements Budget announced Thursday by Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther and City Council.

CORRECTION: This article has been edited to correct the budget proposal amount to $1.26 billion, not $1.26 million as reported earlier, and removes a reference to the fiscal year covered.

The spending plan calls for $42 million to fund a new 911 call center, addiction and mental health treatment facility, a ‘real-time crime center” in Linden, a new North Side fire station and a police substation on the Hilltop.

The budget also includes $35 million to expand affordable housing, $125 million for street resurfacing and improvements, and more than $22 million for sidewalk repairs.

More than $63 million has been set aside to develop and improve parks, playgrounds and recreational facilities, including $12 million to renovate pools at Glenwood and Windsor community centers and $4.5 million to plant trees and support the Urban Forestry Master Plan.

The budget, which consists of $766.2 million in new funding and $494.7 million in carryover dollars from 2020, will receive its first reading at the city council meeting on Monday and a vote is expected on Nov. 1.
