Crew bids farewell to stadium with win

Sunny 95Columbus Crew played its final match at historic Crew Stadium Saturday, a 2-0 win over Chicago, before moving to Lower.com Field in the Arena District next month.

COLUMBUS — Gyasi Zardes scored two goals and the Columbus Crew beat the Chicago Fire 2-0 in the final game at Crew Stadium.

Zardes opened the scoring when he put away a failed clearance of a cross from Lucas Zelarayán in the 17th minute.

Columbus (4-2-2/14 pts.) closed out Crew Stadium — the first soccer-specific stadium in Major League Soccer and the club’s first home — before moving downtown.

The first match at Lower.com Field is scheduled for July 3.

Chicago (1-6-1) has lost back-to-back games.
