COLUMBUS – Ohio’s Republican governor does not agree with President Donald Trump that the president’s supporters should not buy tired from Akron-based Goodyear.
“We should not boycott this good company with good Ohio workers who are doing a good job and making a good product. So, we should not have any kind of boycott,” DeWine said during a briefing on the coronavirus outbreak delivered by video from his home in Cedarville.
Trump on Wednesday urged supporters to boycott Goodyear tires, tweeting that the Ohio-based company had “announced a BAN ON MAGA HATS.”
The company’s CEO and president says it will allow employees to wear attire supporting law enforcement, though it will continue to ask them not to express support for any political candidates while on the job.
Trump’s tweet also claimed the company would not allow employees to wear “Blue Lives Matter” apparel.
CEO Rich Kramer says Goodyear “strongly supports our law enforcement partners.”
He says the company has clarified its policy “to make it clear associates can express support for law enforcement through apparel at Goodyear facilities.”
The tiremaker employs over 3,000 Ohioans.
