COLUMBUS – The case of a deadly officer-involved shooting has been turned over to two special prosecutors who will present it to a grand jury.

The state Bureau of Criminal Investigation on Thursday turned over the findings of its investigation into the actions of Columbus police officer Ricky Anderson in the August death of Donovan Lewis, Franklin County Prosecutor G. Gary Tyack said.

Tyack appointed former senior assistant Franklin County prosecutors H. Tim Merkle and Gary Shroyer as special prosecutors in this matter, who will review the BCI investigation “and present the case to a Franklin County grand jury to determine whether or not probable cause exists supporting a criminal offense” by Anderson, Tyack said.

Lewis died at a hospital after Anderson shot him while he and other Columbus officers were attempting to serve an arrest warrant at an apartment on Sullivant Avenue on Aug. 30.

Inside the apartment, Anderson fired a single shot, hitting Lewis in the torso.
