Ducks leap Bucks in AP poll

COLUMBUS – The Buckeyes remained at No. 6 in the AP college football media poll and No. 5 in the USA Today coaches poll after hard-fought win at Nebraska.

Ohio State (8-1, 6-0 Big Ten hung on for a 26-17 win over the struggling Cornhuskers. The number one offense in the nation managed only two field goals in the second half but the once-maligned Buckeye defense held Nebraska to its lowest offensive output of the season

Taking advantage of Michigan State’s first loss of the season, Oregon moved ahead of OSU putting the Ducks at No. 5 in The Associated Press Top 25 presented by Regions Bank. The Ducks moved up one spot to No. 6 in the coaches poll. Oregon reached as high as No. 3 in the nation after it beat Ohio State, but then slipped behind the Buckeyes for several weeks.

The undefeated Cincinnati Bearcats held on to their No. 2 ranking in the AP survey but dropped to third in the coaches poll after a narrow escape from Tulsa.

Georgia was No. 1 for the fifth straight week, followed by Alabama and Oklahoma, which had an open date.

Notre Dame, Michigan State, Michigan and Oklahoma State round out the top 10.

The Spartans dropped from third with a 40-29 loss at Purdue.

The Boilermakers visit Ohio Stadium Saturday and the Big Ten announced Sunday that the game would begin at 3:30 p.m. and be televised on ABC.

The Buckeyes’ Nov. 20 home game against Michigan State will kick off at noon, also on ABC.
