COLUMBUS – An inmate who walked away from the Franklin County Jail Wednesday morning was back behind bars less than 24 hours later, according to Sheriff Dallas Baldwin.
Jacob Loper walked away from the Franklin County Corrections Center II on Jackson Pike just after 9:00 a.m. Wednesday and was taken into custody just after 4:00 a.m. Thursday, Baldwin said.
The sheriff’s office is conducting an internal investigation into what happened when Loper, 20, escaped as other inmates were being released.
Loper was being held on several federal felony drug charges and was scheduled to be released to the U.S. Marshals Service but walked away and got inside a waiting vehicle, Baldwin said.
