Homicide victim found; arrests in campus stabbing

COLUMBUS – Police are looking for clues in a fatal shooting on the Southeast Side Saturday night.

Officers responding to a reported shooting in a home in the 1800 Block of Wyton Court at 9:36 p.m. found a 24-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound, Sgt. David Shimberg of the Homicide Unit said.

UPDATE 1/25/22 9:08 a.m.: Police have released the name of the victim in this incident

The victim, identified as Jamour Funderburg, died later at OhioHealth Grant Medical Center.

This is the 7th homicide of the year in Columbus and is still under investigation.

Suspects arrested in campus stabbing incident

The Ohio State University Police Division has arrested two people in connection with a stabbing incident inside a campus parking garage overnight Saturday that led to a series of three safety alert messages being sent out early Sunday.

Reports indicate that a fight in the Ohio Union South Garage resulted in one victim being stabbed, police said.

One of the suspects has been charged with felonious assault and another was charged with tampering with evidence.

Neither the victim or the suspects are university students, faculty or staff members.

Man sentenced to in 2020 murder

A 24-year-old man was sentence to 41 years to life in prison for the murder of another man in July 2020.

Jaylon Walker was charged with murder and other offenses in the shooting death of 23-year-old Devontay Stanton and was arrested in August 2020, Sgt. Edward Powell III of the Columbus police Homicide Unit said.

Walker was convicted in December of murder, aggravated burglary, kidnapping, felonious assault, robbery and illegally possessing a weapon.

He was sentenced on Jan. 20 to a term of 41 years to life in prison by Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Daniel Hawkins, Powell said.

Reward offered in imam’s death

A Muslim organization is offering a reward for information in the death of an imam late last year.

The Ohio chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations is offering a $10,000 reward leading to an arrest in the death of Mohamed Hassan Adam, whose body was found in a van on Christmas Eve.

The 48-year-old Adam has been missing for two days before his body was found in a wooded area off Windsor Avenue on the Northeast Side.

This reward will be administered by Central Ohio Crime Stoppers.
