CINCINNATI – As if carpeting huge swaths of the U.S., having those crazy, beady red eyes and their constant droning weren’t enough, an amorous member of Brood X has been blamed for causing a car crash.

Police in Cincinnati say a cicada flew through an open window and hit the driver in the face on Riverside Drive Monday night, causing the motorist to lose control and drive off the roadway, crashing into a utility pole.
The vehicle was heavily damaging the vehicle and the driver sustained minor injuries but there was no word on whether the cicada was hurt.
Cicadas are swarming across Ohio and 14 other states.
They are part of Brood X – the Roman numeral 10, not the letter — which emerge from the ground every 17 years to mate.
Police are advising motorists to keep their windows closed for the time being.
