COLUMBUS – A 37-year-old man has been charged with murder for deliberately running down another man on a West Side street corner Sunday night.
Police say Osman Aweys intentionally struck the man, whose name is being withheld pending notification of his family, at approximately 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of Sullivant Avenue and Holly Hill Drive and fled the scene, according to Sgt. James Marable of the Columbus Police Homicide Unit.
Officers called to the scene on a report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a car found the man, who died at OhioHealth Grant Medical Center just before midnight.
Aweys was found sleeping in his vehicle in the 3900 block of Sullivant Avenue at 11:44 p.m. and was arrested on a charge of murder.
This was the 161st homicide of the year in Columbus.
