COLUMBUS – A man shot to death outside an East Side club late Tuesday night is the 173rd homicide victim of 2021 in Columbus.

UPDATE 11/4/21 7:44 a.m.: The name of the victim in this homicide was inadvertently omitted from the original press release from the police.

The city is now only three murders short of setting a new record for homicides in a single year. The 175 homicides recorded in 2020 was the highest number in the city’s history.

Patrons inside a club in the 1600 block of Patton Avenue called police after hearing gunshots outside the business at 11:41 p.m., Sgt. James Marable of the Columbus Police Homicide Unit said.

Officers responding to the report found Darshawn Perry suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The 39-year-old man was pronounced dead at 12:11 a.m. Wednesday, Marable said.

The initial investigation revealed that the man, identified by the initials D.P., had left a club just prior to the shooting.

Other patrons inside the club heard gunshots shortly afterwards and called for help, Marable said.

Anyone with information regarding this incident, is asked to call Columbus Police Homicide Unit at 614-645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS (8477).
