COLUMBUS – Columbus police have charged a man in connection with a deadly shooting that happened less than a block from a South Linden police substation Wednesday night.

An arrest warrant has been filed for Adam Manns, 22, who allegedly shot a man to death following an argument outside the Beverage Warehouse, near the intersection of E. 11th Avenue and Cleveland Avenue.

Witnesses told police Manns argued with James Hayden inside the store at 849 E. 11th Avenue and the argument continued when Hayden, 29, left the store at approximately 11:00 p.m., Sgt. Edward Powell of the Homicide Unit said.

Powell says the witnesses told detectives Manns got into the passenger seat of a white four-door vehicle and fired several rounds from a handgun as the vehicle drove out of the parking lot.

Columbus paramedics took Hayden to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center in critical condition with a life-threatening gunshot wound. He died at 11:39 p.m., Powell said.

This was the 95th homicide of 2021 in Columbus, police said.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call the Columbus Police Homicide Unit at 614-645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS.
