Man shot by girlfriend becomes city’s 90th homicide of the year

COLUMBUS – A man who died five days after being shot by his girlfriend during an argument her Far Northeast Side apartment has become the latest homicide victim in Columbus.

Kevin Ankum and Princess Brown were arguing in Brown’s Ambleside Drive apartment on June 12 when Brown, 36, took a handgun from her pants pocket and stepped towards Ankum, Sgt. Edward Powell of the Homicide Unit said.

Brown slipped and fell into Akrum and the gun went off twice, Powell said.

Ankum, 41, was taken to Riverside Methodist Hospital, where he died Thursday morning.

This is the 90th homicide in Columbus in 2021.
