COLUMBUS – A man is in serious condition after being stabbed with a machete near the Franklin County courthouse complex downtown Wednesday afternoon.
Police say John Gibson was waiting for a bus on S. High Street near E. Mound Street at about 12:45 p.m. when Tracey Neely started arguing with him, then charged at him.
Gibson, 26, told police he pulled out a machete he uses to clear campsites to defend himself but he tripped and fell, dropping his machete, detectives with the Columbus police Felony Assault Unit said.
Neely, 53, picked up the machete and stabbed Gibson multiple times before Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies could stop him.
Gibson was transported to an area hospital in serious condition.
Neely was charged with felonious assault.
