COLUMBUS – The Columbus Marathon and Nationwide are renewing their partnership through 2024, guaranteeing that Nationwide Children’s Hospital will remain the beneficiary of the annual event for the next five years.
The marathon and half-marathon have raised more than $9 million since their partnership began 2012, according to a joint press release from the company and race organizers on Wednesday.

“We’re excited to extend this incredible community collaboration for another five years. The partnership has exceeded expectations in terms of impact and results for our community,” said Kirt Walker, Nationwide’s Chief Executive Officer.
Race director Darris Blackford the partnership has increased the race’s profile which has led more businesses to provide in-kind support of products and services and their employees opportunities to volunteer.
Major corporate sponsors who have jumped on board since the partnership was formed include L Brands Foundation and The Dispatch Media Group. The Columbus Marathon Board has donated $1.2 million during the last eight years.
Each year, 24 miles of the marathon features a Patient Champion from Nationwide Children’s Hospital to cheer on athletes and there is an Encore Mile for Patient Champions who participated in previous events and an Angel Mile to celebrate and honor hospital patients who have died.
Last year marked the 40th anniversary of the Columbus Marathon and it drew about 15,000 participants from 45 states and 13 countries
The 2020 Marathon Half Marathon are Oct. 18.
