COLUMBUS — Columbus police say an officer responding to a domestic dispute at a Southeast Side apartment complex Wednesday morning shot and killed a man allegedly wielding a knife.
UPDATE 10/01/21 7:13 a.m.: Police have identified the officer involved in this incident as Ofc. Andrew Hawkins, an 11 year veteran of the Division, and the suspect as Kyle Veyon, 26.
Officers responded to a call just after 9:30 a.m. from a woman regarding a domestic abuse situation at the Kimberly Parkway East apartment complex, 2469 Kimberly Parkway East .
Division of Police spokesman Sgt. James Fuqua said the officers were met outside by the female caller and eventually the man with the knife charged at her.
Officers tried unsuccessfully to subdue him with a Taser and an officer then fired several times, wounding the man who died later at OhioHealth Grant Medical Center, according to a report by WBNS 10-TV.
The shooting is being investigated by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
