COLUMBUS – Police say an 18-year-old man is recovering after being shot by a Columbus police officer on the East Side Tuesday afternoon.

UPDATE 3/3/22 8:26 a.m.: Police have identified the officer involved in the incident as Ofc. Grady Kissee, a 3 year veteran of the division.

As officers dispatched to the Marathon gas station at 3377 East Livingston Avenue on a report of shots fired arrived on the scene at approximately 4:22 p.m., police division spokesman Sgt. Joe Albert says they saw a man they believed to be the suspect involved in the incident running away from the area.

The officers began to chase the man on foot and, during the pursuit, at least one officer discharged their firearm, striking him in the lower body.

Jaylon Fisher was taken into custody and officers rendered first aid until medical personnel arrived and took him to a hospital where his injuries were deemed to be non-life threatening, Albert said.

A firearm was recovered at scene. No injuries were sustained by Columbus police personnel.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is conducting the investigation into the officer-involved shooting and Columbus homicide detectives are investigating the original shots-fired call, Albert said.
