One dead in Southeast Side shooting

COLUMBUS – Police say five people were shot, one of them fatally, when gunfire broke out on a Southeast Side street corner early Tuesday.

Columbus police officers dispatched to the area near the intersection of S. Ohio Avenue and E. Whittier Street on the report of a shooting.at approximately 12:22 a.m. found Jerick Jacobs-Tate and Daveyon Powell-Bailey in front of 917 E. Whittier Street suffering from gunshot wounds, Sgt. Edward Powell III of the Homicide Unit said.

Both men were taken to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center where Jacobs-Tate, 23, died and Powell-Bailey, 25, was listed in critical condition, Powell said.

Jacobs-Tate was the 127th homicide victim of 2021 in Columbus.

Jerome Love, 24, and Keith White, 34, were in stable condition at OSU East Medical Center and Robin Reyes, 60, was treated at the scene after being grazed.

An unidentified juvenile at the scene was not injured, Powell said.
