COLUMBUS – There will be a tribute to Dwayne Haskins during the annual Ohio State football Spring Game.
Haskins, 24, was killed last Saturday in a traffic accident near Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Head coach Ryan Day says players and team personnel are still processing the news of the former quarterback’s sudden death, but he would like to see efforts to honor Haskins continue beyond the annual intrasquad scrimmage, scheduled for this Saturday.
“I have a list of things I’ve written down — some probably too big, some maybe not big enough – we’ll just keep talking about it this week. I don’t think we’ll decide this week – certainly going to do something on Saturday to recognize him in some sort of a tribute.,” Day told reporters Monday.
A candlelight vigil is also planned for 8:00 p.m. Tuesday outside of the north rotunda of Ohio Stadium, where a makeshift memorial has sprung up.
Haskins was a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2018 after leading Ohio State to a 12-1 record, the Big Ten Conference championship and an appearance in the Rose Bowl.
He was a first-round NFL draft choice of Washington in 2019
