Police confirm body is that of missing woman

COLUMBUS – Columbus police have confirmed that a body recovered from the Scioto River Saturday is that of Amber Evans, a community activist who been missing since January.

Detectives with the Special Victims Bureau, working in conjunction with the Division of Police dive team, recovered the body while searching in the area of the Whittier Street peninsula, Sgt. John Blubaugh, of the Missing Persons Unit, said.

Evans, 28, was reported missing on January 28 after her car was found on the downtown riverfront.

Evans has been active with groups like the People’s Justice Project and the Juvenile Justice Coalition, according to a report in The Columbus Dispatch.

The Franklin County coroner’s office was called in and the body was positively identified Sunday, Blubaugh said.

“While this is not the outcome we had hoped for, we understand this brings closure for the family, and our thoughts and prayers go out to them,” Blubaugh said.
