COLUMBUS – Repairs to the Statehouse and grounds damaged during protests over racial justice spurred by the death of George Floyd will cost over $158,000, according to the organization that maintains the historic property.
The Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board hired a professional service to clean and remove graffiti from the limestone building and walls, and the granite and marble monuments on the grounds around it.
The board also collected quotes for repairs to doors and the glass and the wooden millwork of the windows, which have been boarded up since May 29.
Additional exterior damages include pole lights and lanterns, a bench and many of the trash cans.
The total cost of repairs of damage that was done during the protests from May 28 through June 18 is estimated at $158,263.57, not including expenses incurred by the Ohio State Highway Patrol or the costs to repair the damage that occurred on other state property.
