COLUMBUS – The Salvation Army in Central Ohio is serving up free Thanksgiving meals this year, with a coronavirus-era twist: a drive-thru.

Due to COVID-19, the three free meals being distributed to Columbus residents will be handed out via a drive thru system to ensure safety.

“We are grateful to be able to provide warm meals safely to those families who are struggling during this pandemic. We want to bless our neighbors with nutritious meals and bring hope during these difficult times,” said Maj. Debra Ashcraft, area coordinator for central Ohio.

Meals will be handed out at two locations on Wednesday and another one on Thanksgiving Day, Ashcraft said.

The East Main Worship and Service Center, 966 E. Main Street, and the Hilltop Worship and Service Center, 2300 W. Mound Street, are both serving traditional Thanksgiving meals on Wednesday. The Hilltop center will begin distributing meals at 11:00 a.m. and East Main starts at noon.

The catered boxed dinners are made possible by BMO Harris Bank.

The Chapel at Worthington Woods Worship and Service Center, 760 Worthington Blvd., is also serving a drive-thru Thanksgiving meal on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to noon.

No reservations are needed, but everyone receiving a meal must be present. Meals will be served while supplies last.

All of the food has been donated by Rusty Bucket Restaurants, Ashcraft said.
