Six hurt in crash that shuts down interstate

COLUMBUS – A multi-vehicle accident involving a semi and several other vehicles sent six people to area hospitals and shut down a major freeway during Monday morning’s rush hour.

Marcus Guimaraez De Fretitas, 33, of Etna, was driving a 2018 Western Star tractor-trailer eastbound on I-270 near Alum Creek Drive just before 7:00 a.m. when he failed to stop for slowed and stopped traffic and struck five stopped cars in the rear, according to a release from the Columbus Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Six people were transported to Grant Medical Center, Mount Carmel in Grove City, and the OhioHealth Emergency Department in Obetz with non-life threatening injuries, Lt. Michael Akers said.

The interstate was closed for approximately three hours during the investigation.

Troopers were assisted on scene by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office deputies, the Obetz Police Department, Hamilton Township Fire Department, Columbus Fire Department, and the Ohio Department of Transportation, Akers said.
