COLUMBUS – The Omaha Storm Chasers hit four home runs as they built a four-run lead and held off the Clippers for a 7-6 victory at Huntington Park Friday night.
Nick Loftin and Nate Eaton took Clippers starter Thomas Ponticelli (2-6) deep in the first two innings for a 3-0 lead before Jonathan RodrÃguez hit a two-run homer in the fifth to cut the lead to one run.
John Rave and Angelo Castellano hit homers in the sixth to push the Storm Chasers’ lead back to 6-2 but the Clippers answered with three home runs in the bottom of the inning.
Daniel Schneemann and Zack Collins hit solo home runs off starter Max Castillo (3-6) and Jhonkensy Noel added a homer to pull Columbus to within a run again.
Clay Dungan scored the winning run on Loftin’s sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth and Will Klein picked up his third save of the season despite giving up a run when he got Brayan Rocchio to pop up to Castellano at shortstop with the tying and winning runs on base.
