COLUMBUS – Police have arrested a murder suspect who has been at large for six weeks.
A Columbus SWAT team arrested Brandon Smith was arrested without incident Friday in the 1800 Block of N. 4th Street on a murder charge stemming from the Sept. 6 shooting death of Donnie Ferguson on the Southeast Side, Sgt. Edward Powell III of the Homicide Unit said.

Smith, 32, was charged on Sept. 10 with the murder of Ferguson, 43, after a confrontation in the 2100 block of Haviland Drive.
Ferguson’s death was the 143rd homicide of the year in Columbus, matching the second-highest yearly total of murders, set in 2017, but surpassed in 2020.
There have been 170 homicides in Columbus so far this year.
