Suspect in East Side homicide arrested

COLUMBUS – A man is in jail on a murder charge in connection with the shooting death of man on the East Side Friday night.

Genghis Shakhan was arrested without incident by Columbus SWAT officers at approximately 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Sgt. Edward Powell III of the Homicide Unit said.

Shakhan, 22, was charged with the murder of Max McGuffin, 35, who was found at approximately 7:51 p.m. Friday by officers were dispatched to the 900 Block of Barnett Road, Powell said.

McGuffin died at Mount Carmel East Hospital despite receiving lifesaving medical treatment.

This was the fourth homicide of 2022 in Columbus.

Police are still working to identify a man whose body was found in a vehicle near Yale Avenue and W. Broad Street on the Hilltop just before 9:00 p.m. Friday.

Homicide Unit detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death, which is considered suspicious, Sgt. David Shimberg said.
