Suspects sought in assault on disabled man

COLUMBUS – Columbus police have released photos of men they say are persons if interest in an attack on a disabled motorist during violent downtown protests in May.

Eldon Hawkins, 58, suffers from cerebral palsy and drove to Broad and High streets on the evening of May 31, right into a group of people demonstrating for social justice, according to media reports at the time.

Some of the protesters threw a bicycle against Hawkins’ windshield and kicked his car, he told WBNS 10-TV.

When other protesters realized Hawkins was disabled, they came to his rescue, the reports stated.

Police say the men in the photos are facing several felony charges, including criminal damaging.
