Officers were called to 1815 Ridgebury Drive on a report of a shooting at 7:38 p.m. found 17-year-old Jayce O’Neal suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, according to Sgt. James Marable of the Homicide Unit.
She was transported by Perry Township paramedics to Doctor’s West Hospital in critical condition and died there at 8:30 p.m. She is the 107th homicide victim of 2021 in Columbus and police spokesperson Sgt. James Fuqua says O’Neal is the city’s seventh homicide victim between the ages of 13 and 17 this year.
Detectives determined that O’Neal was fighting with another girl when the second girl, a 16-year-old, produced a handgun and shot O’Neal in the head, fatally wounding her, Marable said.
Following the shooting, the younger girl fled the scene in a green 2010 Toyota Corolla, (OH lic.# JHG-9071), pictured above.
Detectives have filed an arrest warrant charging the girl with murder.
