Teens shot in argument over football

COLUMBUS – An argument over a football reportedly led to a shooting that sent two teenagers to the hospital.

Meanwhile, the death of an unidentified man has raised the city’s yearly murder toll to 158.

Police say the 12- and 16-year-olds accidentally hit a child with a football they were playing with in the 300 block of Seemic Circle on the Northeast Side at approximately 8:20 p.m. Thursday, according to media reports.

The suspects shot into the home of the victims during an argument stemming from the incident with the football, then fled from the scene.

The victims were listed in stable at a local area hospital and the incident is still under investigation.

Police have not identified the victim of the city’s latest homicide, a man found suffering from gunshot wounds in the 3000 block of E. Main Street at 2:06 p.m. Thursday after an anonymous caller said they heard three shots in an alley and believed someone had been shot, Sgt. Eric Pilya of the Columbus police Homicide Unit said.

The man was transported to Grant Hospital where he later died.

No suspect information was immediately available.
