COLUMBUS – A spate of violence left eight people hurt in Columbus in a little more than 24 hours, including three teenagers and man shot by his son during an argument.

The first of seven separate incidents happened just before 9:15 p.m. Monday with the shooting of a woman in the 800 block of Greenfield Drive, police said.

The most recent was the shooting of a man on Cushing Drive just after 1:00 Wednesday morning.

A man was arrested after an hours-long standoff on the South Side that began when police say 27-year-old Jeremy Davis shot his father, Rodney Burroughs, while visiting him in a wooded area near the intersection of S. High Street and Barthman Avenue just after 2:30 p.m.

Boroughs noticed Davis had a handgun tucked in his waistband and while the two argued about Davis having a gun, the younger man pulled the weapon and fired a single shot at his 55-year-old father, striking him in the left leg, detectives said.

Burroughs was taken to Grant Hospital in stable condition while Davis ran away and barricaded himself inside a home on S. 4th Street where he held several people at gunpoint for several hours before surrendering to SWAT officers.

Four people, including two teens, were shot in three separate incidents within minutes of each other.

Police say a 17-year-old and a 15-year-old were shot during the older boy’s birthday party when someone in a black vehicle drove by a house in the 400 block of S. Weyant Avenue just before 8:45 p.m., pointed a green laser at the teens and a group of friends in front of the home, striking the boy in the foot.

He was taken to a hospital in stable condition and a 15-year-old boy was found later to have suffered an injury during the incident.

Police say two cars and the house were also struck by gunfire.

Two other shootings were reported at 8:31 pm. And 8:46 p.m.

A 17-year-old boy was in critical condition after being shot twice in the stomach on the Northeast Side just before 10:30 p.m.

Police say the teen was found on the ground near the intersection of Cleveland Avenue and Laurelwood Drive by family members who had heard several gunshots in the area, police said.

Anyone with any information about these incidents is asked to call the Columbus Police Felony Assault Unit at 614-645-6818 or Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS (8477).
