Violence claims eight lives in three days

COLUMBUS – A 72-hour rash of violence in Columbus, which has now left eight people dead, continued Tuesday afternoon as police investigated the latest homicide in a year that is already on pace to be the deadliest in the city’s history.

Dominick Braxton was found suffering from an apparent gunshot wound in the rear of an address in the 200 block of Miami Avenue, on the Northeast Side, at 12:51 p.m. by Columbus police officers called to the scene on a report of a man lying in the alley, Sgt. James Marable of the Homicide Unit said.

Braxton, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene, the 139th homicide victim of 2021 in Columbus.

Six other people, four men and two women, have died as a result of homicides since 2:00 p.m. Saturday.

One of the suspects took his own life.
