Woman stabbed, man shot in separate incidents

A woman stabbed by her boyfriend on the Southeast Side and a man shot to death outside a Northeast Side apartment building Wednesday became the 38th and 39th homicide victims of the year in Columbus.

Mud Hens 3, Clippers 0

COLUMBUS – Christin Stewart’s three-run home run in the bottom of the 8th inning accounted for all of the scoring in Toledo’s win over the Clippers Wednesday in the third game of a four-game series.

The Mud Hens can complete the sweep if they win again Thursday night at Fifth Third Field.

Columbus starter Adam Plutko (3-3) was saddled with the loss after giving up base hits to the first two Toledo batters of the 8th inning before Stewart hit his homer off reliever Ben Taylor.

Josh Turley threw 8 innings of 2-hit shutout ball for the win and Victor Alcantara picked up his first save of the season.

Thursday’s series finale starts at 7:15 p.m. Columbus travels to Indianapolis for a three-game weekend series before returning for a 10-game homestand.
